Delivered in collaboration between First Person Consulting and Visual Insights People.
Advance your evaluation practice with a day of interactive learning, creativity, and serious fun. This workshop is for anyone wanting to strengthen their own evaluation and systems thinking skills — and learn how to build those skills in others.

In recent years, behavioural science has shown the power of pictures, stories, and play in supporting learning and positive change. Applying these insights to evaluation capacity building opens up new ways to engage participants, sustain motivation, and create deeper impact.

In this full-day workshop, facilitators Dr Samantha Abbato and Matt Healey combine their toolkits from Visual Insights People and First Person Consulting to offer:
  • Play-based activities covering evaluation basics, evaluative thinking, systems thinking, and change management.
  • Card and board games that embed evaluation principles through hands-on learning.
  • Practical strategies for trainers and facilitators who want to use play in building capacity in evaluation and systems thinking.

Learning objectives:
  • Understand the role of behavioural science and play in evaluation capacity building.
  • Strengthen knowledge of evaluation, evaluative thinking, and systems thinking.
  • Learn to use games, stories, and play to build others’ skills in evaluation.
  • Identify opportunities to bring more fun and engagement into your practice.

Take-home resources:
  • A kit valued at $125 including evaluation and systems thinking card games (like Catalyst: The Systems Thinking Strategy Game and Evaluation Word Game Flashcards).
  • A practical guide to extend your own play-based evaluation and systems thinking toolkit.
The workshop is highly interactive, combining shared experience, hands-on activities, and reflection. Participants will leave with practical resources and the confidence to apply play with purpose in their own work with others.
