Shifting systems is never straightforward. Even with a shared goal, the paths to achieving change can vary widely.

Catalyst simplifies this process into an engaging game for 3-5 players. It’s easy to learn but hard to master, challenging you to navigate change, understand power dynamics, and adapt to shifting objectives. With no two games the same, Catalyst offers a fresh experience every time you play.

Gameplay

The goal is simple: Transform the system from one state into another before time runs out. Working collaboratively, you will play cards that have ripple effects across the system and influence each others intended actions and outcomes.

Be careful - if time expires before the system has shifted everyone loses. Shift the system before it's too late!

Purpose

Learning systems thinking concepts is difficult - it's an abstract practice that needs to be grounded for practitioners to understand 'how' to think and apply the ideas.

By taking a tactile process (cards) and blending it with engaging gameplay Catalyst provides an accessible introduction to systems thinking without overwhelming players.

Use it as an icebreaker activity, engagement exercise with partners, or as an excuse to bring teams together to learn. Suitable for any context, context area, and all levels within organisations and teams.

Plus - it's fun!
